Kingston Trio Originals
Description
Kingston Trio Originals, a 3 disc set, is the only album ever assembled tracking these 2 original members of this monumental group-The Kingston Trio. The Kingston Trio is an American folk and pop music group that helped launch the folk revival of the 50's and 60's. Starting as a San Francisco nightclub act, their original lineup of Dave Guard, Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds rose to international popularity, fueled by unprecedented record sales, which altered the direction of popular music. Kick-starting in 1958 with the hit recording of "Tom Dooley," a #1 record, selling over 3 million copies, they went on to make 19 albums reaching Billboard's Top 100, 14 in the top 10 and 5 at #1. The group still ranks in the all-time lists of Billboard's cumulative charts. They were described in 1961 as the most envied, the most imitated and the most successful singing group, folk or otherwise, in all show business. The Trio's massive record sales made acoustic folk music commercially viable, paving the way for singer/songwriters, folk rock and Americana artistrs who followed in their wake. Tow of the three original members, Bob Shane and Dave Guard, have graced us with solo albums. Dave Guard wrote and performed Trio classics such as "A Worried Man," "Scotch and Soda," "Zombie Jamboree," among others. Some of his best work is redone on his solo album, "Up and In." Bob Shane sang many of the Trio's 80% of the Trio's hits including "Tom Dooley," "Scotch & Soda, "MTA" and 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone." His most famous voice can be heard on his 2 solo albums: The World Needs a Melody and Simple Gifts,The Lost Solo Sessions. Kingston Trio Originals, a 3 disc set, is the only album ever assembled that tracks the work of these 2 seminal, original members of this monumental group-The Kingston Trio.
