Here’s why: 1.The old belt stretched out. Old belts get longer and less springy over time because they’ve been used a lot. New belts are still in their original shape, so they feel tighter. 2.New belts are more elastic. New belts haven’t been stretched yet, so they’re naturally tighter. It’s just how they are when they’re fresh out of the package. 3.Maybe it’s not installed right. If the belt isn’t put on properly or the motor isn’t adjusted correctly, it can feel way too tight. For example, if the belt isn’t lined up right on the pulley or the motor is too close, it’ll be super tight. What to do: 1.Adjust the motor position. Loosen the motor mounting screws and slide the motor along the slots to loosen the belt a bit. Then, tighten the screws back up. 2. Check the belt tension. Press on the belt in the middle with your finger. If it gives a little—about half an inch or so—it’s good. 3.Make sure it’s the right belt. Double-check that the new belt is the same size and type as the old one. If you’re not sure, check the manual or ask someone who knows. If it still feels too tight after you’ve fiddled with it, it’s probably best to call a pro to take a look.
